Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
